Hineni Advent
Every year at Christmas time, I like to focus on a certain word or theme for the Advent season. I love the days of waiting leading up to the celebration of Jesus’ birth, remembering generations of people who longed for the Savior’s first appearing. Advent is also a time when I reflect upon and long for his second coming, when he will make all things new and redeem this broken earth.
I recently came across the Hebrew word Hineni which means “Here I am.” This rich word is layered with meaning. Hineni is a posture of readiness, surrender, and attentiveness to God. Throughout the Bible, people answered God’s call with Hineni – and God himself meets us with Hineni as well.
This Advent season, I welcome you to join me as I share Hineni moments in scripture and from my own life. I’ll be sharing 25 short daily devotionals here and hope they bring you comfort and joy this holiday season.
